a lot of people have a completed warped, idealized vision of recovery in which they wake up one morning and say, ‘today i’ll get better,’ and their problems cease to exist.
it’s not like that.
it’s not about forgetting all of your previous struggles and bad habits and unhealthy behaviors and disordered thoughts.
it’s about waking up in the morning and saying ‘today i won’t give up.’
‘today i’ll try to do better than i did yesterday.’
‘today i’ll do more than just survive’
and then, after many mornings of saying these things, you won’t have to consciously tell yourself to live. you’ll live because you want to, because you’ve found your worth. because you’ve found a life without restricting, binging, purging, cutting, burning. a life with a will to live, as opposed to a will to die.
